Painting as A Harvest. Talk at Clark Art Institute

The painter Rebecca Allen and I had a wonderful conversation about the Norwegian landscape painter Nikolai Astrup. About 100 people watched it live. In Sprout Lands, Astrup appears for his embodiment of the traditional Norwegian farm and its obsession with light. He was a great gardener and a great painter, and his finest paintings show his family at work on the farm. Likely, he would have done little without his wife Engel, who was born and raised on Sunde farm and so had the last name Sunde.
